Anyone heard of Clinifast?

If you think kimkins has the potential to be very dangerous...

I just came across this today and all I can say is what the...???

One of Clinifast's great products is called Ultra. It is designed for many uses including meal replacement shakes. One serving of Ultra has only 45 calories, 11 grams of protein and only 1 carb!

Correct me if I am wrong but a meal replacement shake is when you replace an entire meal with it, yes? So, what they are suggesting is that you replace say a typical 500 calorie diet meal with one that doesn't even come up to 50 calories and only a measly 11 grams of protein???

This is the blog here called living the low carb life... yeah right, since when were protein shake meal replacements a low carb life??? clinifast

Has anyone done this?

For those new here, considering this diet, I would highly suggest you check out my kimkins posts and the kimkins links to the right as well as check out some of the research into the health risks of very low calorie diets, particularly shake diets.

Wow Sherri, this is disturbing. I just looked at some of the info they are giving out and it doesn't sound good. I'm gonna do some investigating.

"Cover me! I'm going in!' :D

Hey Sherri,
Their website sends conflicting messages. Watch calories, watch carbs, watch fat... I'm going to ask them some questions and see what answers I can get. I don't think it's as bad as it first sounds because they do advocate eating real meals (at least in some of their writings it says so) but then other times they keep talking about meal replacements, so it's not clear. I'll be sure to let you know what I find out...

glad to see somebody else was confused by their info on their sites too.
Man that is scary if their program for the obses which promises 30 pounds in 30 days really is those shakes.

Thank you for all the help in exposing Kimkins, and I'm delighted to see that it has brought you to discovering other potentially hazardous product and helping to get out an early warning!

I enjoy your other blog as well. Great information!

Everyone I've ever known on low-carb who was either forced into meal replacement shakes or liquid diets gained the weight back, and then some. What a miserable existence! Instead of learning to eat, we're pouring protein drinks down people's throats and expecting what? Moist-throated people dreaming of three-ways with Ben and Jerry?

Amy did you get any response?

That diet looks outright irresponsible to me...

I haven't heard anything back yet Sherrie. Think they are ignoring me and my pointed questions? ;)

Hey Sherrie, I FINALLY got an email back from this place. I asked them if their plan was low-carb, low-fat, etc. and if they pushed shakes as meal replacements. Here's their reply:

"Amy...Thanks for your email. Sorry it took so long to respond - our server
has been down and we just recaptured our email messages. We have multiple
options available based on an interview/needs assessment - not one approach
for everyone. All individually tailored. Call me if you need further
information. Jeanne Johnson, M.S. Clinic Director
"

So it looks like they'll try to find the diet that suits you. At the same time, they didn't really answer my question either. I can't stress enough here... USE COMMON SENSE.

Amy it looks like BS to me, simply because they never answered your questions!!!
There's many that claim to be individually suited based on your blood tests blah blah

Yet, when you view random peoples plans they are all the same and VLCD to boot!

Cohens and I think it is sureslim comes to mind!

There's many out there.

I agree Sherrie, it's probably safest to steer clear of this one.

I have used this program and it works, you feel great, and you eat real food as well as the shakes. They are the best tasting shakes and I've tried LA Weightloss, Medshape, and Weight Watchers. Plus they're filling and enriched with vitamins. When you're trying to lose weight you wouldn't replace a 500 calorie meal with a 500 calorie shake for crying out loud. I lost 60 lbs and did not feel hungry.

CWow this is an old post, great news you lost your weight. I'm curious, how many meals did you replace each day?
