What The....

I have seen some pretty stupid descriptions of ketosis in regards to a low carbohydrate diet over the years but this one beats them all...

If the body doesn't receive sufficient carbohydrate, it breaks down muscle and other tissue to produce glucose.

This causes a build-up of waste products called 'ketones'. This is, known as 'ketosis' and is common in people who are starving, suffering from anorexia nervosa or who have insulin-dependent diabetes.

Ketones makes the blood acidic, in severe cases Ketosis can be fatal, particularly for pregnant women, unborn babies, and for people who have diabetes.

Finally, the heart may not be able to function to its full ability as ketone bodies are its main source of fuel.

So, not eating carbohydrates is bad for you.

Sigh...

Isn't amazing how many people comment on things they don't know anything about?

Hi Sherrie :)

I just read your link to the Farmer's Markets and saw all the posts on the message board - lots of interested people!! :D We have a really big farmer's market here in Los Angeles California that I've never yet visited but now you are making me WANT to. ;)

It's such a great idea to get people talking about fresh fruits and veggies and they don't get any fresher than at a farmer's market, do they? Thanks :)

When I Do go I'll be sure and let you know.

Sigh!! Yes, I'm getting sick of hearing how ketosis is bad for you. Ketosis is simply using your body fat for energy. You must do the ketogenic diet properly by eating fat and eating enough. For goodness sakes they've have ketogenic diets for epileptics for years!

Hey Cindy it sure is!!!

Hey Fat Bitch (love that naame hehe)

I imagine yours would be alot bigger then ours!

You can find some really great things, even little things like home-made tomato sauce (ketchup but the lumpy home-made kind) are pretty cool.

I love them.

Hey Anonymous, couldn't agree more!

Oh, man! Having just written a Q&A on ketosis for my Web site, I couldn't agree more - that is the most bolluxed up, totally twisted description I've ever seen! I mean, could it possibly be MORE wrong?

Love your blog, BTW, and am adding it to the blog page on my site.

Hey Laura :)

I am flattered you like my little blog, I have not posted as much as I'd like but I am hoping that will change soon as things settle down :)

I will look out for your QA on ketosis. I am pretty sure your site is linked on my website but I know it isn't here so I will add it now as it is a great resource.

Thanks :)

Hi, Sherrie -

Thanks so much for the link, and the encouraging words! The more we can "cross-pollinate" the better for getting the word out.

Here's the FAQ on ketosis:

Hmm, that whole link didn't show up - there should be an htm on the end. Let me try to make a better link:
